Upon recommendations from the Department of Health and Human Services and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS) has made revisions to the Long Term Care Provider Agreements for Nursing Facilities (Provider Type 33) and Supportive Living Facilities (Provider Type 28). MEDICAID SPOUSAL IMPOVERISHMENT STANDARDS FOR 2010

The Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services is not increasing spousal impoverishment standards for the year 2010.

The yearly increase amounts in the spousal impoverishment standards are based on the Consumer Price Index.  There is no increase in the Consumer Price Index for 2010; therefore, the standard amounts from 2009 will continue to apply in 2010. Read full article.

Congress failed to pass an extension of the therapy cap exception process before they adjourned last month, despite massive lobbying efforts by therapy stakeholders.  Therefore, the $1,860 therapy cap, without the exception process, became effective as of January 1, 2010.  As you are aware, there are separate therapy caps:  one for occupational therapy and one for physical therapy and speech language pathology combined. MEDICARE PART B THERAPY FEE SCHEDULE SERVICE DATES 1/1/10 – 2/28/10 UPDATED RATES

In the FR&R Healthcare Bulletin HC 2009-57, issued on December 17, 2009 and titled “Updated Part B Schedule for Outpatient Therapy Services,” we included an attachment of the new rates effective January 1, 2010.  On December 21, 2009, the president signed the Department of Defense Appropriations Act of 2010 which included a two month freeze on certain components of the physician fee schedule rates, effective from January 1, 2010 through February 28, 2010.

In the FR&R Healthcare Bulletin HC 2010-01, issued on January 4, 2010 and titled “Temporary Delay in Fee Schedule Rate Change,” we reported, consistent with prior rate freezes, that the 2009 rates would continue to be in effect from January 1, 2010 through February 28, 2010.  On January 11, 2010, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released updated Medicare Part B fee schedule tables and conversion factors on their website.
